catchin' up San Francisco

Kurt and I left on my birthday for a Christmas/Birthday present trip to SanFran and it was SO much fun.  Looking at all our pictures again makes me want to go back.  The weather was perfect and we just had a blast.
The day we arrived we explored and rested in the hotel.  Oh ya and watched Escape From Alcatraz to prepare for Day 2!
SOOO COOL!
During the self-guided tour you listen to head phones of old prison guards and some inmates talking about what it was like.  Kinda spooky but we loved it!
We bought a magnet with this on it...  pointed it out to the kids ~ SEE?  We aren't the only ones who enforce regulation 5.  : )
We learned that the guards families lived on the island as well.  They were seperated from the prison of course but that surprised me.  We also heard from people who had lived there as children on our tour.  They loved it!  They told us about taking the ferry to school in the city every day and coming back.  It was a great adventure.  Their moms would take care of the grounds and they were proud of their gardens.
After watching Escape From Alcatraz it was fun to see it in real life.  Have you seen the movie?  You should - it's really good!
Coming back...
In 1990?  91?  92?  These seals?  Sea lions?  Took over this pier and never left.  So now it's protected and quite a sight.  And boy do they STINK!  They're pretty funny.

This big daddy was my favorite just showin' off.
The next day we rode bikes across the Golden Gate.  Oh man I think this is the coolest thing we did but I loved everything so it's hard to choose.
Just look at the blue sky!  It was the perfect day.
We had lunch in Sausalito then took the ferry back.
 Here's our hotel.
It was smack dab in the middle of everything which was great.
Across the street was this park...
 and beach...  pure heaven.
Around the corner was the cable car turn-around.
I have to say this is another thing I loved the most.
It was not easy to come home but we did.  I loved it there so much but I suppose that's the case everywhere you go to relax and play.
