Better, Faster, and More Powerful

What am I looking at you ask? This is my Cannondale R3000 road bicycle that I have modified to add an 850 watt Heinzmann hub motor, speed controller, modified Dewalt lithium batteries, and a lot of wiring and soldering. Basically its an electric assisted bicycle.

Why did I build it? Because I had a dream; a dream of not paying for gas; a dream of arriving to work on my bike without sweating all day; a dream commuting as fast as a car but without a car; a dream of having the ability to exercise while commuting the 25 miles home from work in one hour, instead of two. Yes, you heard me correctly. No gas, high speeds, optional integrated exercise.

How does it perform? Better than expected...I can cruise 25 miles into work with minimal effort while wearing my business casual attire in basically the same amount of time that it takes me to drive. After work I don my bike clothing and pedal home as hard as possible. I engage the motor to help me maintain higher speeds (around 30 miles per hour). This enables me to get home quicker but still gives me a great workout for about an hour. When I pedal with the motor its much like adding batteries. It simply makes the motor more powerful. I can also turn the motor off and pedal without assist with almost zero resistance from the motor.

How come it looks so cool? Because I am fancy and I wanted my bike to be equally fancy. :)

Holy jumpin' - I hope you're running some puncture proof tires (like the Armadillos) - I'd hate to get a front flat at the speeds you're going!
