I bet you know what I'm thankful for today...

Matthew! Happy happy birthday, Matthew, dear!

17? How is it possible? I remember people telling me -

"they grow up SO fast, he'll be 18 before you know it. Enjoy your baby while you can"

and I thought, ok... whatever. 18 years is a lifetime away. (maybe I thought this because I WAS 18 when I had him and 18 years WAS my lifetime?)

Well, they were right.

Where did my baby go? I feel so old saying this, but seriously, he's grown up WAY too fast.

17 years ago today I became a mom and that's all I've ever wanted to be. I remember holding my little bundle in the hospital - all 9lb, 7oz of him - so happy he was here. Matthew has always been kind and friendly. When he was 1 he'd say "hi" to everyone we saw, it didn't matter if he knew them or not. With each new addition to our family Matthew was never jealous, he just loved the new brother or sister like he remembered them from heaven and was so excited to be with them again. It's been an honor for me to watch him learn and grow into the man he's becoming. I'm so proud of Matthew for the choices he's making as he becomes an adult. It's not easy being a teenager in this world. Everywhere you turn you're bombarded with temptation and he's working so hard to remain worthy of the priesthood he holds and eventually serve a mission. As a mother this thrills my heart! Happy birthday Matthew, we love you!

I remember the night that little man was born. I remember being absolutely heartbroken when you took him away to Alaska. Happy Birthday Matthew. You are a great kid and always have been. Even when you spit up on me- ALL THE TIME.

love,
Brooke
